A boom in short-term rentals is spawning niche services that solely focus on self service check-in and managing keys for properties on Airbnb,, HomeAway and other home-sharing platforms.

It’s a sign of how quickly the do-it-yourself business of renting out your home is becoming an entrenched segment for shops and 24/7 stores in urban areas. Online short-term rentals is an under served, but potentially lucrative, submarket for 24/7 shop owners.

The best 7-Eleven shops with Sharebox check-in service, log 30-something customers each day picking up keys and buy items on the go.

In Sharebox we put our focus on transitioning heavily to short-term rentals because it is a lucrative business for our network of shops and 24/7 stores and we saw they were making more money.

Entering the short-term rental market is much easier today because of the advent of new software, plug-and-play boxes and systems that can manage multiple check-ins of vacation rentals on various platforms from Airbnb to TripAdvisor.

Short explained Sharebox uses their own vacation check-in management software, to handle the host/guest communication, and processes financial data, such as how much revenue a Sharebox generates, through software processes.

One of the things is automated messaging. We are able to keep everybody informed. If someone books a lockers, they get an automatically generated email. A cleaner also gets immediately notified when a hosts use Sharebox to confirm that a person has checked out. Right now, we are making advances in the check-in process with touchscreens, more functionality in the app and better first time text messages.

The beauty of the Sharebox platform is that we enable our network of shops and 24/7 stores to grow their business and succeed.
